What an exciting weekend! I have to say that I am both exhausted and elated by the turnout over the weekend. We had so many out-of-towners and early risers and late nighters...it was so awesome. We started out at 6am on Friday morning to be ready for the early birds at 7am! And they were there waiting at the door...how cool is that?!! Well, 40% off is worth waking up for..LOL! We had a great day hearing about all of the deals and steals around town from all of our customers...I am way too competitive to shop those sales anymore...I usually never find what I went out for and I leave upset and depressed that someone got "it" before me...it really is so exciting to snatch up the last one...ANYWAY, we had a great crop on Friday night and then started all over on Saturday. I had more fun this weekend than I can remember and I am so thankful to have shared it with all of you. Now, I am off to decorate the house for Christmas...and then I'm going to the store to see Shirley teaching this awesome class..at 1:00pm. Can't make it...don't worry! Happy Thanksgiving to you all! As we prepare to set our tables and welcome our friends and family I hope that you all will take a moment and remember to be thankful for all of the blessing we have. I am so thankful for all of you!

So, to show our appreciation we have some great things planned for you on Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th. You all should have picked up a flyer in the store by now..but if you missed it, stop in and get one tomorrow. We have regular hours on Wednesday the 22nd we are open 10:00am-7:00pm. We will look forward to helping you with any last minute preparations you may have for Thursday.

Our sale on Friday will consist of Early Bird Specials that you will not want to miss. We will do awesome make-n-takes and special discounts storewide on both Friday and Saturday. We have ALOT of items going in the bargin bins...so shop early for the best selection. You know us...we love deals..and we love passing great deals on to you.

Don't forget that we have crop nights both Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th. Come and Scrap ALL DAY for the evening price...that's right..only $10.00 for up to 15 hours of scrappin fun. Info on Kid's Camp, Our Sign and so much more....

Here are a few pictures of our classroom area....the first is of our kid's camp..this is an event that we do every Sunday. It's from 11:30am-3:30pm. This is offered for children 10years and up. Cost is $5.00 per child and here's the great part....they don't have to buy a thing. All of the product is donated by Mel, Lisa and Amy, our awesome staff and also our wonderful customers!! The children may have a budget (if mom allows) and we will help them spend their money wisely...or they don't have to buy a thing..This is not a class..it's free time for them to make whatever they want with the materials provided. Call the store for details!! Here is our sign...FINALLY...if you all only knew what we went through to get this! Nothing like "fighting" City Hall..but we won!! As you can see there is a Massage store right next to us and we share the peak on the building...it was an interesting dispute on where our sign should go....above Massage Envy (which was everyone's first choice) or as the city said we should have it..which was side by side...That would have looked horrible. Anyway, after over 2 months of deliberation...we were finally awarded the permit to put our sign in place. It was unexpected Friday morning..when I drove up to the store and saw the crane..I knew right away what was happening. I called Amy and Lisa and told them to get here fast..and we all screamed and cried together. It was an amazing moment. It's like now...we are official. We are here to stay..and we are ready to get creative with YOU!

Meet Rick...he is our UPS guy...he has been bringing us packages since we were sitting in our building with cement floors and papered windows....he is the sweetest guy. He has even given our business cards to customers he knows that scrapbook along his route...and he comes in with "ideas" every day. He is hillarious and he always steals a couple m&m's and a water....for the road. Here are some of the things he has brought us this past week.... Melissa Frances Christmas collections... here are the christmas cutouts and one of the papers...this is such a soft and classic feel...makes me think of christmas' past...Several other collections are represented in the store from baby to cooking. You have to see the adorable cookie cutters. They are already going fast so don't wait too long. Bohemia Christmas from My Mind's Eye is absolutely stunning. Come in and see the beautiful display in the store. It has coordinating papers, tags, alphabets and we have added some wonderful embellishments that are sure to make your Christmas pages and cards ones to cherish for a lifetime. This is one of the best machines on the market today..in my humble opinion (LOL) We have only one in store right now..along with this adorable rolling tote to bring this darling cricut with you every where you go! We received this beautiful basket on Monday from my Mother-in-law. She lives in Michigan and it was such a nice surprise. Actually, I wasn't surprised because she is just that thoughtful..all of the time. I love her so much and miss her dearly. She is planning to visit at Christmas time..and I am begging her to stay for good..but you know...she does have her own life to worry about I suppose...LOL! So, thanks MOM!!!! Here is also a great big thanks so Lorie and Carol, Auntie Mimi, Mom Judy, Larissa, and Amy's best friend Amy...for the beautiful flowers and plants we received this week. You all are amazing and we appreciate your kindness...it's been a great week.

I cannot believe that we are open for business today!!! I slept for almost eight hours last night...I think that's the longest since starting this adventure...LOL I feel a sense of calm this morning as I am preparing to go to the store. I am now home...it's 1:00am...and I cannot sleep. My mind is full of all sorts of thoughts and emotions. So much happened today...so much. First of all we had our inspector come to do the final walk through. You have to know that this is the first time any of us have ever done anything like this..and there isn't a manual for such an occasion...I mean, not one that tells you step by step by step on what to do and who to call and so on...so needless to say...we knew we had to have a final inspection for occupancy...and we knew we had to call..and we did..but apparently we didn't call everyone...so we were so close to NOT opening on Sunday...can you imagine??? The guy was so nice and he said YES!! We were totally in compliance with all of the laws..the braile signs, the handicap height for one of the counters..all of the wonderful things that make our space comfortable and safe for ALL who enter..and that's a wonderful feeling. So, he signed our paper and walked out the front door...not knowing really what he just did to our lives..not knowing how amazingly wonderful that signature was..and not knowing how much that signature would represent all of the work we had done..and all of the wonderful work still to come. Amy, Lisa and I all turned toward each other as we waved our inspector out the door and we all just looked at eachother and started to cry. It was at that moment that it all came together. We held eachother and we laughed and we screamed and we danced and we cried. And that inspector had no idea as he headed to his next job...what he just left behind. He had no idea that every moment, every thought, every tear for the last few months have revolved around that signature. So there we were at 6:00pm welcoming our teachers and staff to an employee crop...finally friends with us at our tables. It was so much fun. Thank you all for coming and scrapping. It was great seeing you and I hope you all had fun. The girls loved the store..as this was the first time they have seen it put together. What a difference a day makes..let me tell you. Our custom furniture arrived yesterday at 4:00pm..and was completely unloaded and set up by 6:00pm..and we had to have it ready for inspection by 8:30 am...today...so we didn't get much sleep to say the least. The space went from empty to full in a matter of hours...and it is so exciting. We wish we could post the pictures but we don't want to ruin the surprise. It will get better and better with each passing day...we just cannot wait to share it with you on Sunday. We will open at 11:00am on October 1st. We cannot wait to see you walk through our doors. We are going crazy trying to put all of the finishing touches on everything. It's all falling into place as it should now. We are filled with anticipation as we wait to open our doors. We cannot help but imagine what that moment will be like. There has been no time to take photos...but I will add some soon. We don't want to ruin the "surprise" of what the store looks like...so we cannot show you our progress just yet. Once we open our doors look here to see class samples, new arrivals, and just random thoughts. This will be a key source of information for you all. Beware...this is a long post... I read alot of different blogs almost every single night and there is one that I love so much. It's the blog of Melody Ross from Chatterbox. For those of you who do not know..she is the mastermind behind that awesome line. I think she is extremely insightful and I enjoy reading her words so much. Sometimes...I literally feel like she is writing MY words. It's very erie...especially since we have the same name...anyway..that's a whole different story..I had to post her most recent post because even though I did my "hard thing" a few months ago...if I had had these words then..I would have written them. This really probably doesn't make alot of sense to alot of you reading..but I am hoping that you may be inspired just as I was. I hope that you can do the "hard things" to make YOUR life happier, more at peace, and full of free will. The harder the decision..and the choice..the better it is for you...someTIMEs..and this was our TIME..and it's ABOUT TIME...! Only 5 more days! Love, Mel September 26, 2006 DO THE HARD THINGS.... September 26, 2006Overcoming Fears DO THE HARD THINGS You know what I have learned about life after a whole lot of doing things wrong? I have learned that if you’ve got something difficult staring you in the face…just get it done…and get it done first…get it done before you chicken-out or change your mind or get scared out of it…if you know it’s right, if you know it’s necessary to get you where you want to go, or where you know you are supposed to go…do the hard things. I think one of the hardest things in the whole wide world is accepting and embracing change…especially a change that will shake things up…a change that’s a little scary and uncertain….a change that is inevitable. Another really hard thing is having conversations that need to happen…that are scary and uncomfortable…. Today I had to do some things that I have been trying to fight for a long time…I had to accept some big changes and even take it into my hands to accelerate them. I had to have some conversations that I knew were crucial, but that I tried to fool myself into thinking weren’t really so necessary….because I knew that what I had to do today would make it one of the most difficult but character building days that I would ever have. "It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.” –Alan Cohen But, I did it. I just did it. I did it first thing and I kept it together and I remained honest and loving the way I wanted to…I wanted to show my love and respect by being completely honest, with myself and with the changes that needed to happen….and I didn’t waver from what I knew needed to happen. I sacrificed my own comfort and fears for the greater good…..and, it was very very difficult…and painful….but, I have known that it needed to be done for so many reasons….not just for me, but for others that I care about so deeply…… I have to be honest and say that I used to have my husband do so much of this for me…take care of things that made me uncomfortable or scared….and today, he said he would help me….but….I told him that I needed to do this myself, because it was the right thing to do and because I cared about it enough to do it the right way…to show my respect and care, straight from me. In the past I have had teammates do hard things for me, I’ve even had my children do hard things for me…..you know….tenderhearted and non-confrontational, etc……and, over the years, I have conquered one hard thing after another…..and realized…that the more you do hard things that need to be done, in a completely full-hearted and honest way….the more you realize that just doing it has immense rewards, mostly internal, but external, too. I came home tonight feeling at-peace….feeling like I handled things with grace and dignity and respect and love….and the only way that it could have happened is by doing it the hard way….and I did. And even though it was a difficult day….and I am exhausted….I feel a great sense of peace and self-respect…..that I am starting to be a grown-up…..and it’s about time. Do the hard things. Seriously, I think that my brain is going to explode!!!! So much product, so little time! But still loving every moment of it. I cannot believe we are in the final stretch. ONLY 6 MORE DAYS! We are so excited to rip down that paper on the windows and show you all what we have been working on for over three months. It's really starting to look like a store....

Whew...what a week. We have been so busy getting all of our inventory entered. We started actually putting things on the walls now. I have to say that I actually cried. Can you believe that? I cried! It was totally rediculous..and silly...but it was a realization that this is really happening. From the moment the girls and I started talking about this three month ago..to this very second.. it has been a whirlwind. It has been full of emotional rollercoasters, fear, excitement and exhaustion. We have had to defend our character, fight for our friendships and hold our heads high through some of the most heart wrenching experiences..over the last few months. Each and every experience has brought us to where we are right now and I know that it is good. I know that we are so blessed. I know that we couldn't ask for more with the ladies who have walked through our doors for employment. I feel so blessed to be surrounded with such talent and excitement for this amazing passion we all have for our memories and for our love of art. Thank you to all of you for showing your love and support...and thank you to those of you we have yet to meet. We cannot wait to see your face when you walk into our store. We cannot wait for you to come and sit at our tables and share your memories with us. Our classes are going to knock your socks off...so be sure to check out the samples on October 1st when we open our doors to the public. Our hours will be 11:00am-5:00pm. We have been soooo busy!!! Let's see..what have we been doing?...we have been entering ALOT of inventory. We are preparing for our custom furniture to be delivered Friday morning. That will be the crowning glory. It feels like we have been shuffling things from one side of the room to the other..and now it will all start falling into place. We have started working with our teachers and design team members to have a fabulous class schedule in place when our doors open on October 1st. We are still looking for a couple of part-time helpers. We need some coverage for the evenings and weekends. It was amazing meeting all of the wonderful ladies who came out for our open call. I am truly amazed at all of the talent. I have to tell you all that we are going to have a phenomenal team. Here are some pictures from last week...we got our cute shopping carts and baskets...it still surprises me when I see an oject with our logo on it. I cannot believe that this is all happening. It seems like it has taken forever and yet..It's all happening so fast. Only a couple of weeks and we will have our doors open for business!

Friday morning was the open call and it was really fun having people in our building, sitting at our crop tables..and enjoying eachother's company. That really is what it's all about...good time with friends. How we have missed you all.

After everyone left the open call we decided to have a little fun with the office chairs...LOL (that's why there's three of us...so someone is always there to take the pictures..=)

Just a quick update...

well, the orders are still steadily coming in. So far, only a few mishaps...but nothing we couldn't fix. The floors are done and they are beautiful. A big thank you to Amy's husband Andy, and his friends Chris and Mike. They really worked hard while Tony and I were in San Diego watching an amazing baseball tournament where my amazing 8 year old hit a three run blast!! It was a moment like in the movies. We were in the top of the sixth, two outs and he has two strike on him. He swings and the ball goes...and goes..and over the fence it flies. My son had a smile on him bigger than I had ever seen before. It was something that I cannot even describe to you. Can you believe we had three professional photographers there?? I swear it was fate. I will share the pictures when I get them back. We are going to have some fun scrapbooking those!! We hope you all had a wonderful Labor day weekend. Melody, Lisa, and Amy

Here she is trying to conduct business...LOL. Look at all of those boxes..and if only you could see beyond the frame...tons of product coming in daily. We have gotten to know our UPS guy very well...and he's so great. He comes in with a smile everyday. We are pretty much downers....you know us..we are never smiling or laughing...so he really hates coming to our store. (now you all know I'm joking) We cannot stop smiling..and it's contagious.

I cannot even begin to tell you how overwhelmed with happiness I am today. We have had an outpouring of responses to our "open call" and I am so excited!!! I had no idea how many local girls we have that are so amazingly talented. I am so anxious to meet you all. We are going to have so much fun. Just a quick note...in case any of you are wondering....the classes that are posted are simply "staples". Every scrapbook store nationwide provides these types of classes. No one has cornered the market on these, and we are not trying to copy anyone else's calendar. You will find the "staple" classes as well as many others that we will not reveal until our grand opening. We have to keep some things under our hats...=) We all need to know that there are several stores in our area. WE encourage you to visit all...as they are all wonderful. We wish everyone happy success and we of course wish success for ourselves. So, to you, (anonymous) please don't concern yourself with us...please be happy where you are at. We certainly are!!!

Do you love scrapbooking and enjoy teaching others your passion? Well, then we are looking for YOU! We will hold an “open call” for anyone interested in teaching one or more of the following classes: Basic Scrapbooking-basic layout Technique Trends-latest trends like inking, distressing..etc. Kids-ages 5-7yrs and 8-12 yrs Cards-All-occasion Pieces of Me- layouts all about me Altered Art-altered projects of all sorts Monthly Moments-Month themed layout Scraplifting 101-mastering the art of “copying” a layout found in magazines, online…etc. These are just a few of the classes we have thought of…do you have an idea of your own? Please share with us on September 8th, at 10:00a.m. Please bring with you a sample layout or design that you would teach. Please bring a sample of your scrapbooking style. Are you interested in designing only? Well, then we want you, too! Stay at home and create projects for us…that we assign, and display your work of art in our store. I cannot believe how fast things are coming along now. It seems like we have been standing still for two months now...and believe me...we haven't been...it just feels like forever since we've seen any of you! The store is coming along great!! The walls are going up, the slatwall is almost completely installed, the bathrooms are getting prettier by the minute and thanks to our wonderful husbands...our flooring goes in tomorrow. We chose a deeper tone to ground the space. There is going to be so much maple everywhere due to the slatwall and fixtures, that we thought we should add some warmth. What do you think? Nice picture of me huh? LOL...Can you see the framing behind me? Busy...busy...busy!!

Hello! It's been a few days since my last post. We all have been busy buying and buying for our store. It's going to be FABULOUS!!!!! I just hope the store will hold everything we have purchased. Things are coming along slowly but surely. Our contractor finally has settled on his bid, and what he needs to start building the walls. The electrician has agreed on his price..and we are saying.."GET BUILDING!". So, the walls have been painted...(not all the way finished yet) and the bathrooms are starting to get their facelift. It just honestly cannot happen fast enough. You know what is the worst part of all of this?? Being away from you all..our customers and friends. We left you all for a very good reason..(we hope you agree) and we are working on a place for you to come and "get creative"...and a place for you to enjoy some great company. Well, I won't bore you all with my big blurb on how much I love you all...since you all should already know. I have some pictures to upload..but I have to get them out of my camera. First Day Of School...

It's 7:55am and I am already exhausted! I just dropped Jordan off to his first day at High School. Wouldn't you know that he took it like a champ..and I am the wimp. I offered to walk him to his first class..but that was met with "the look"..so I quietly said I love you...have a great day and turned around and walked away. Now, I am home..waiting to send my only daughter off to middle school..and then drop the two boys to elementary...with today being the first day of Kindergarten for my youngest...so pretty much...I will be crying all day!!! I am off to start dropping them off... I'll write more later. Mel

Hey there! This is our first entry. I wanted to document the daily grind of trying to open the best scrapbook store EVER!! We have found a store front..finally. That has been so challenging. Not that it was hard to get approved..because that was just about instantaneous...it was how long it takes the "powers that be" to make a decision. Literally, the girls and I have been waiting for like three weeks just for this one owner to say yes or no...so finally we decided to keep looking and wouldn't you know it..we found the perfect place. And it was all thanks to the other owner taking so long. By the time they came back with an approval..we had already signed the lease for the "better" spot. Now we are surrounded with drywall and cement. We literally have our "office" set up with lawn chairs. We figure for what we are paying in rent...we might as well use the space. It's been really exciting to set up vendor accounts and to go shopping for all of the wonderful fixtures and furniture. Wait until you all see how beautiful this store is going to be. It's going to be like something you have never seen. But, you will have to wait to see it..you will not be disappointed. Every day we are making more decisions and buying more things...and of curse we are waiting on permits and contractors, and our handyman is already busy at work building our kid's area and painting the store...prettying up the bathrooms and then once he is finished with that the slat wall should be here..so he will start installing that. Well, I guess I won't make this first post a mile long...I just wanted to catch you all up to date. I will post some pictures of the building and a few of the girls and I. Oh, and isn't our name awesome? It's About Time...Scrapbooks & More because it is all about preserving time...and it's about time the girls and I do something for ourselves...and it's about time you get your butts in our store and have some fun!!!!!
